Our Mission

The Justice Center (JC) seeks to: center the perspectives and experiences of people of color who interface with the legal system; transform the legal system and other systems that harm; abolish racial hierarchies; disseminate resources that expose and challenge racial, social and structural inequities; and, use and assist in the development of restorative and transitional justice approaches to current injustices and inequities, particularly those that are systemic in nature.

Our Work

The JC fulfills its mission in the following ways:

  • Education

    • Creation of lesson plans

    • Providing course content

    • Providing instruction

    • Conducting trainings 

    • Creating publications

      • Furnishing the justice-impacted with educational resources

      • Disseminating of content pertinent to human rights, social justice and the intersection of race, law and justice

  • Consulting

  • Performing racial equity audits and reviews

  • Restorative and Transitional Justice

    • Work under any of these pillars:

      • Legal and policy reforms

      • Truth-seeking

      • Memorialization

      • Reparations

      • Prosecutions

      • Development of restorative and transitional justice approaches/responses to abuses, injustices and inequities

In 2024, The Justice Center co-sponsored the installation of a historical marker on Canal Street in New Orleans, LA to commemorate Louis A. Martinet's work with integration.

Recent Work

  • Co-sponsor for the Louis A. Martinet Marker in Downtown New Orleans, LA

  • Organizer of the 50th Anniversary Commemoration of Students United and the Southern University Student Movement

  • Co-sponsored Henry Montgomery's 2025 Birthday Surprise
